Tips for Buying Furniture Online
When life gets busy and you don’t have time to drive around town furniture shopping, online retail therapy can be a great alternative. The only downside? It can be hard to picture the furniture on your screen in your home to know if it fits your space or style.
We’re here to help. Whether you need a bedroom suite, living room sectional or dining room set, these helpful online buying tips will help you find the perfect product so you can continue building the home you’ve always dreamed of.
Make a Pinterest board. Save some Instagram posts. Check out a few decorating blogs and magazines. There are a million ways to get the creativity flowing! For those of us who have no idea what our style is, it can be a little bit tricky. Here’s a tip: try searching for a few specific styles like traditional, transitional, contemporary and casual on Pinterest to see which one you prefer. If you like them all and don’t want to stick to one specific style, pick a more neutral piece of furniture and spice it up with a few accent pieces, like some fun pillows. It’s the perfect way to try different styles without breaking the bank.
There’s nothing worse than realizing that dreamy living room set you just purchased is way too big for your room. To avoid the heartbreak (and hassle), just measure the available space in your room and compare those measurements with the ones listed online.
First – and this one is super important - measure all the doorways to make sure you can actually get that couch past the front door.
Second, measure the space where you are planning to put your product. Remember to measure width, height and length.
Finally, compare those measurements to the dimensions online to ensure an easy breezy delivery and set-up.
(Keep in mind that an entire living room set might not make sense for your home. If you live in an apartment or just don’t have a lot of free space, try shopping for a sectional instead. Here are a few of ours that we l-o-v-e.
Know your shipping options
Nothing’s worse than thinking you’ve struck the mother of all deals, only to discover that the delivery costs a fortune. Watch out — some retailers will get you with their insane shipping, delivery and assembly charges. Try finding an online furniture store that offers free in-home delivery. (Hint, hint.) You’ll save enough $$$ to treat yourself to something way more fun, like those fun accent pillows.
