Cozy sweaters. Colorful leaves. Pumpkin spiced everything. Fall is the perfect time for super fun dates with your significant other, and even if you’re tight on cash, there are plenty of free or cheap options. Here are a few of our favorites.
1. Go apple picking
Apple picking is one of our favorite ways to enjoy the fall outdoors. Break open the closet — you’ll need flannel and boots for this date! Some orchards make you pay for admission, but others only make you pay if you pick apples. You can save some money by just walking around the orchard to enjoy the fall air. Orchards are also a great place to enjoy some baked treats (don’t forget to snag some for the road), or to go on a hayride.
2. Take a hike
The best way to see the fall colors is to get out and enjoy nature! Depending on where you live, you can either drive to the mountains or to your local park. Whether you’re looking for a casual stroll or a more intense climb, there are tons of regional hiking websites that help you find the best hike for you. Try hiking to a waterfall, or find a scenic overlook. Bring a picnic lunch for a meal with a view, and be sure to check when the fall leaves will be at their peak colors.
3. Get lost in a corn maze
This one isn’t just for kids! Some corn mazes are actually really tough to escape, and problem solving with your date can help you get to know each other. Don’t forget to grab some hot chocolate or coffee before you start the maze. Fall can be chilly.
4. Try a movie night at home
Going to the movies can be super $$$ — plus, you have to listen to other people chomp on popcorn while you’re trying to watch. Fall evenings are the perfect time to relax at home and watch a movie (or show!) with your person. Pop your own popcorn, order take-out, and curl up with your favorite fuzzy blanket. It’s the perfect date for a chilly fall evening. Need a new TV? We have plenty. Check ‘em out.
5. Carve pumpkins together
Halloween isn’t the same without carving a pumpkin! This fall classic also makes for a great date night. Pumpkins are pretty inexpensive, and you can use common kitchen tools to carve in a pinch. Whether you’re more of a classic Jack-o-Lantern type, or a little more creative, there are a ton of fun ways to carve. Put on your favorite playlist, grab some wine, and enjoy a fun date night of carving.
6. Bake a pie
The best dates always involve food, right? (We think so.) Spend some quality time with your date by baking a pie from scratch. Apple. Cherry. Pumpkin. The possibilities are literally endless. It’s super easy to find a recipe online, or you can ask your mom for a family classic! Need some inspiration? Try this awesome pumpkin pie recipe. And once you’re done baking, try playing board games with your date while you enjoy it.
