Let’s be honest – we find ourselves oooing and awwwing whenever we see a cute puppy walk by or an adorable kitten photo comes up in our social feed. Unfortunately, there are soooo many big-eyed and bushy tailed friends in shelters or rescue groups who need a forever family. The good news is there are advantages to adopting a furry friend – here are some of our favorites!

1.       Save a life

Did you know that millions of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are euthanized each year since shelters can’t house them all? It’s incredibly sad, but the good news you can give one of these cute creatures a second chance. You can save a life AND gain a lifelong friend.

2.       Giving a shelter animal a home

Most of the adorable shelter animals don’t have the same freedom in home pets have – it can be loud and scary in a shelter and they are usually confined most of the day. But, you can help a cute puppy go from sitting in a cage, to chasing your kiddos around the house.

3.       Cheaper than buying a new pet

We get it – having a pet can be expensive. Luckily, adoption fees typically tend to be lower than buying a purebred puppy or kitten. And some adoptable pets have already been neutered and vaccinated, saving you money. So, all you need to do is get the fun stuff, like toys!

4.       Positive Health Benefits

A dog may be a mans best friend, but it can also be your health’s best friend! Studies have shown that having a pet can lower your blood pressure, ease pain and even improve your mood. So instead of petting your neighbor’s dog all the time, get a cute little puppy to brighten your mood, everyday!
