If you’ve seen this sweet and caffeinated treat on Instagram, you may wonder just how to create it yourself! No worries – we’ve got you covered step-by-step to get your fix of java, right in your own kitchen! And if you’re not a coffee fan? We’ve got a treat for you too!
a hand mixer or whisk
1 tbsp instant coffee
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp water
a small glass of milk
2 ice cubes (or more, depending on the size of your glass)
Prepare a glass of milk with ice. This will be what your frothy coffee will top! You can use whatever milk you’d like, but for a lighter drink, consider skim or almond milk. Set your glass of milk aside for now.
Now it’s time to prepare the foamy coffee! First, a couple tips: make sure you’re using instant coffee and NOT coffee grounds – the coffee needs to dissolve as you mix it, so grounds won’t work. You also must use real sugar and not Splenda or other sugar alternatives, otherwise the coffee won’t fluff!
Okay, ready? Combine one tablespoon of instant coffee, one tablespoon of hot water, and one tablespoon of sugar in a bowl. If you have a hand mixer, this will be perfect to get the creamy, fluffy texture you need. If not, a whisk will work! It will take longer to fluff your coffee, but will still get the job done. With a hand mixer, mix the ingredients for 1-2 minutes, or until the coffee is light and fluffy with the texture and thickness of whipped cream. If you have a whisk, complete the same steps, but whisk for 5-7 minutes.
Once your coffee is fluffed and puffed, the last step is the easiest – grab your glass of milk and spoon the whipped coffee on top! You can add as much or as little as you’d like. All done!
Take a sip! You’ll get a nice mixture of the whipped coffee and milk, and as you sip, the coffee will seep into the milk to create a sweet, decadent treat. Cheers!
